Kansas Christian got on the board first in the bottom of the 1st on a fielders choice RBI by Manny Valenzuela. Arlington Baptist countered with a solo home run to left field. Then later in the inning, the Patriots added two more runs on a single and sac fly. In the bottom of the 3rd, Jesus Reyes tripled to center field as Drew Lippold and Chris Hunter both score on the play, tieing up the game 3-3. Then the next batter, Stults drives in Reyes from 3rd on a Sac Fly to right field, taking the lead 4-3.
The fifith inning is where the damage was done for good. Hunter walks, Valeunzuela walks and Reyes singles on a bunt to load the bases. Stults delivers with an 2-Run single, putting the Falcons up 6-3. Three batters later, senior, Whisler hits the ball down the left field line with some wicked spin on the ball as it gets by the left fielder and Whisler legs out a triple, clearing the bases and the Falcons taking a commanding 9-3 lead.
Tommy Thomas pitched 5-solid innings, giving up 3-runs on 7-hits, walking-zero and stroking out two and picking up his 3rd Win. And, even though the game was not a save situation, Coach Hurla didn't want the Patriots to start a come-back, so he put Jose Ballista in for the last 2-innings. Ballista finished the game allowing 1-hit and striking out 3 batter. Ballista is the go to guy to nail down the save for the Falcons this year. He has pitched 23-innings, giving up 1-run and striking out 35-batters (13.2 K/9).
The 1-5 hitters did most of the damage combining to go 7-14, 8-runs, 6-RBIs, 4-walks. Whisler had a bases clearing triple that helped too.
The Falcons managed to split the 4-game series, the last series of the year before the playoffs. The Falcons finished the season with a record of (25-20). As a team they hit .292 (368-1259), 72-doubles, 19-triples, 29-home runs, .384 (OBP), .449 (SLG) and 62-steals. Despite thier team ERA of 6.45, in the last 8-games, they have compiled 2.57 ERA, going 6-2, compiling 45-strikeouts in 56 innings.
